Srinagar: At least eight non-Kashmiri labourers were shot dead and five others injured on Monday by unidentified gunman in a village in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir.
A group of armed gunmen opened indiscriminate fire on a group of non-Kashmiri labourers, killing six persons on the spot and injuring seven in Budroo village in Kulgam area of the district this afternoon, the sources said.
Two persons succumbed to injuries in hospital, they said.
A Defence spokesman said the labourers were shot dead by militants, but unconfirmed reports said the labourers were killed in an exchange of fire between security forces and militants.
The dead persons worked in a brick kiln and were lined up before being shot at the sources said.
