CHENNAI:  The Erode police have arrested a male nurse, who allegedly took nude pictures of a 10-year-old-girl on his mobile phone at a leading private hospital.Erode SP Jayachandran said that accused Sibu Joseph (26), a hospital assistant, was booked under the Women Harassment Act on Saturday last. A local court later remanded him.Under the pretext of giving an injection to Kavitha (name changed), Sibu entered the room and asked her relative to wait outside. “Joseph then asked Kavitha to remove her clothes stating that he had to check for urinary tract infection and took the pictures, claimed Jaya Priya (38), Kavitha’s mother. Kavitha had sustained injuries while playing with her classmates on July 12 and had been admitted to the hospital. “The hospital said that she needed to be treated for one more day. So, I went home to get money to pay the hospital charges. Meanwhile, I asked my friend to stay with her,” Jaya Priya  said. The next day, when Jaya Priya took her daughter to the bathroom, Kavitha said that the hospital assistant took photographs of her.“I immediately took up the issue with the senior doctors at the hospital. But the hospital authorities did not respond positively. They told me that the MD was out of town and they would be able to sort out the issue after he returned on Friday,” she said. When Jaya Priya approached the hospital on Friday, they continued the dodge. “It was then that I took up the issue with the SP Jayachandran,” she added.Police said that Sibu Joseph had been working at the hospital for two years. As per hospital rules, a male nurse should not attend to a woman or a girl child without a female nurse. But on the day, Sibu Joseph deliberately avoided a female nurse and asked the girl’s relative to wait outside before he took the pictures, Sethubathi said.Though preliminary investigations did not prove that Sibu was a habitual offender, Child Welfare Committee Chairperson P Manorama said that the police should investigate further and probe the issue.
