Hyderabad: Investigations into the fake passport scam have slowed down in Andhra Pradesh following confusion over which agency will probe the matter.
While Hyderabad Police are investigating a case involving TRS MLA Kasipeta Lingaiah, it is the CID that is probing another case lodged against his partymate Soyam Bapu Rao.
"CID is the right agency because inter-state investigation in various other states is called for. So, we felt that it can be transferred to CID, the second case,” says Hyderabad City Police Commissioner Balwinder Singh.
Hyderabad Police claim field investigations in the case lodged against Lingaiah are almost over.
But strangely, the police did not even issue alerts or warrants against the alleged kingpin Shakeel and Rajupitti who have been absconding since the racket got exposed.
Travel agent Rasheed has confessed that several MPs, MLAs and former ministers are involved in the scam. But the police indicates that it is in no hurry to question them.
"His assertion or his claim that so and so is involved cannot be taken at face value till we get corroboration. We're looking for that corroboration and if it is there, we'll be proceeding with the legal process,” says Singh.
The pace of investigation by both the agencies shows that there may not be any arrests or action in the near future against the politicians allegedly involved in the racket and that they would get enough time to cover up their involvement.
