With the reason for IIT-Chennai student Mergu Manasa’s suicide continuing to be unclear on Wednesday, her bereaved mother Nirmala demanded immediate shifting of her daughter’s mortal remains to her home town, Godavarikhani.
The mother, a heart patient, was kept in the dark about her daughter’s death but by Tuesday midnight she sensed something was wrong from the behaviour of her relatives.
Told about Manasa’s death, Nirmala has been in a state of shock. A pall of gloom has descended on Manasa’s residence at Raghavendranagar Colony in Godavarikhani.
Meanwhile, Rajesham, Manasa’s father, reached Chennai on Wednesday to claim her daughter’s body. When contacted by telephone, he said that he would return to Godavarikhani by midnight with his daughter’s body.
Manasa completed her B.Tech from Satya Sai University, Puttaparthi and got admitted to IIT-Chennai for her M.Tech in chemical engineering on August 1, sources said.
She is the only daughter of her parents and her brother Avinash is doing his graduation in Godavarikhani while also helping his father in their furniture shop.
The Karimnagar police said that they do not have any information about Manasa’s suicide and said that the Chennai police have registered a case and are carrying out further investigations.
