Farmers form co-operative committee for milk production, dairy business
Farmers and livestock-men of Chhattisgarh's naxal-hit Dantewada district have formed a cooperative committee to take up a project for milk production and dairy business.

Farmers and livestock-men of Chhattisgarh's naxal-hit Dantewada district have formed a cooperative committee to take up a project for milk production and dairy business.

"In retaliation to the so-called 'red revolution' of naxalites, farmers and stockmen of the tribal district have introduced a unique model 'Kshirsagar Project', which will enhance the production of milk and dairy products in the region," Dantewada Collector KC Dev Senapati said.

The committee formed by them has been registered as 'Kshirsagar Doodh Utpadak Sahkari Samiti' (Kshirsagar Milk Producer Cooperative Committee'.

White colour of milk resembles the colour of peace and healthy life. Hence the project will not only improve the economic condition of farmers but also spread a message of peace and prosperity, Senapati said.

The task has been taken up on the special initiative of Chief Minister Raman Singh, on the lines of world famous 'Amul' Dairy project of Gujrat.

Presently, the committee consists of 20 members and more number of farmers will be encouraged to join this committee in future, he said.

A pasteurization unit equipped with ultramodern equipments has been established under this project. This unit will enable daily production and distribution of 2000 litres of milk.

The committee of farmers is likely to earn monthly income of nearly 32 lakh from this business, he added.
