A five-year-old boy was injured
today when a crude bomb exploded on the open terrace of a
tenement in the housing colony of Slum Clearance Board here
while another unexploded bomb was recovered, police said. Police said the boy was playing with a cricket ball along
with a few other children. The ball fell into a pigeons' cage
in the terrace and the boy, who went to pick it up, picked up
a bomb mistaking it to be the ball, police said. On throwing it,the bomb exploded, injuring the boy, police
said, adding, the boy has been hospitalised. A three-year-old girl sustained minor injuries and was
treated at the out-patient wing. Another unexploded bomb was found in the cage and it has
been seized, police said. The incident occurred a day after some unidentified
persons threw crude bombs at the locked house of a French
national. A week ago an accused, who was being taken back to prison
under police custody from Puducherry to Karaikal, was killed
when a gang hurled bombs at the police van. Five police
personnel escorting him were injured.
