For BJP, Aim of ‘Mission Michel’ is Goal 2019: Sena’s Stinging Attack in Saamana
The party alleges that the Centre is trying to corner Congress president Rahul Gandhi and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.

Mumbai: The Shiv Sena has yet again slammed its ally BJP and has said that the country will not forget the alleged corruption in the Rafale deal.

The party alleges that the Centre is trying to corner Congress president Rahul Gandhi and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.

“We have no love towards Sonia and Rahul Gandhi, but the government machinery shouldn't be indiscriminately used for unleashing a political conspiracy against someone. The accused in AgustaWestland case should not go unpunished, no matter how powerful they might be. But Rafale won't be forgotten because Michel took Sonia and Rahul Gandhi's name. This is a plot to target them,” the Shiv Sena said in an editorial in their mouthpiece Saamana on Wednesday.

"It seems like the issues of inflation, unemployment, demonetisation, farmers' suicides and Ram Temple will be forgotten during the 2019 poll campaigning , and only Michel's name will be used. What will the country get out of it?” said the editorial.

The piece also alleged that Michel naming the Gandhis was a pre-decided move and that the Prime Minister had already hinted it.

“During the campaigning for the five states assembly polls recently, the Prime Minister had claimed that sensational information will emerge from the CBI’s probe on the alleged middleman. Now, we understand why he had said so at that time. It has been pre-decided that Michel will name Sonia and Rahul Gandhi. Still, Modi lost the five state polls. Now, it is clear that the aim of Mission Michel is Goal 2019,” Saamana said.

The Sena further claimed that only a handful of people controlled agencies and used them for personal and political motives. “The verdict in Sohrabuddin case came at the same time. The court has said that there was pressure on the agencies to name the BJP leaders in it. The Congress is now making the same claims in AgustaWestland matter. This clearly means that the government system is used by a handful of people,” said the editorial.

Drawing parallels between the allegations of corruption in the Rafale deal and in the AgustaWestland case, Saamana said that both were similar. “Just like Michel is claimed to have taken Sonia Gandhi's name, former French President Hollande had claimed that the Centre had recommended name of Anil Ambani’s firm as an offset partner. Rs 432 crore were doled out as kickbacks for AgustaWestland, whereas the price of Rafale aircraft was hiked and a businessman was promoted,” added the piece.
