Forensics prove Capt Kohli committed suicide: Col Pandey
Captain Sumit Kohli's mother met Defence Minister A K Antony on Saturday and demanded a CBI inquiry into his death.

New Delhi: Col Rahul Pandey, who deceased Captain Sumit Kohli's mother Veena Kohli holds responsible for her son's death, defended himself on Saturday saying that both forensic examinations conducted on his body that he committed suicide.

"Both the reports have concluded that the death was due to the bullet injury. It is quite possible that the medical regiment office could have made a mistake. But subsequently, when the civil medical officer and forensic reports came, then it was very clear that the reports were right," Pandey said.

On allegation that Sumit Kohli was killed because he was trying to blow lid on fake encounter in Kashmir Valley that took place in 2004.

"The incident that his mother is referring to was indeed an actual operation which was given the colour of fake encounter by an anonymous letter. Still, the army authorities carried out a high level enquiry about it and the enquiry told us that there was no truth about the allegation made by the letters," Pandey said.

He added that at the time of the encounter, Kohli was on leave.

"From 2004-06, he went on leave to Chandigarh where most of our senior officers work. What stopped him from exposing? There was no reason for any threat. He was the crown of our battalion and was an able and very professional officer," Pandey said.
