BANGALORE: Former chairman of Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) H N Krishna’s bail plea was rejected by the 8th Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court (ACMM) on Thursday. With this, the former state Information Commissioner is now undertrial number 10359 of 2011 in the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison. Krishna, who is allegedly involved in irregularities and malpractice in the selection of gazetted probationers between 1998 and 2004, has to serve time in jail as an undertrial for 14 days as judge Kiran Kini rejected his bail petition. Assistant public prosecutor Arundhati Kulakarni objected to granting bail to Krishna saying he was capable of tampering with evidence and influencing witnesses. She also cited some cases where the Supreme Court rejected the bail pleas in such cases. But Krishna’s counsel argued that he was not facing grave charges and the IPC Sections would not lead to a life sentence if the case was proved. Hence, he has to be granted bail, the counsel argued. The court had remanded Krishna to judicial custody and had sent him to the central prison on Wednesday. Krishna was arrested by CID sleuths in connection with the case on October 7 and was produced before the court. The accused had pleaded to the court to grant him interim bail as he had to attend his adopted daughter’s wedding. The court had granted him the interim bail till October 12.
