Four people were killed in rain-related incidents in Uttar Pradesh as moderate to heavy showers on Tuesday lashed several parts of the state where major rivers were in spate. Four people, including two children, perished in Bahraich district as south-west monsoon remained active in eastern parts of the state, officials said.
Karvi and Safipur each received 5 cms of rains, Koraon four, Hasanganj three and Neemsar, Hardoi, Kanpur, Mau and Lalitpur and Sambhal one each. The Central Water Commission said major rivers were flowing above the red mark at a number of places in the state. River Ganga was flowing close to the danger mark from Fatehgarh to Kanpur and Sharda at Palia Kalan, it said.
River Ghaghra was rising menacingly at Elgin Bridge in Barabanki, Ayodhya and Turtipar in Ballia. River Quano was flowing above the danger mark at Mukhlispur in Sant Kabir Nagar, the Water Commission said.
