Four pilgrims were killed and six others injured on Sunday after a bus in which they were travelling came in contact with live electric wire in Banka district of Bihar, a police officer said.

Four pilgrims were killed and six others injured on Sunday after a bus in which they were travelling came in contact with live electric wire in Banka district of Bihar, a police officer said.

The mishap took place when a bus carrying about 50 'kanwarias' came in contact with high tension electric wire at Belhar power station, Deputy Superintendent of Police Piyush Kant said.

While two pilgrims were killed on the spot, as many others succumbed to burn injuries in a hospital, he said.

Six others injured persons were undergoing treatment at Sadar hospital. The ill-fated bus was carrying the 'kanwarias' from Bokaro (Jharkhand) on way to Sultanpur in Bhagalpur district for paying obesiance to Lord Shiva at a temple there, Kant said.

Efforts were on to ascertain the identity of the victims as well as those injured in the mishap, the police officer said.

Meanwhile, a group of irate kanwaris stormed at Belhar power station and ransacked furniture and electrical equipment before torching it in protest against the death of four fellow pilgrims, Kant said.

Senior officials rushed to the spot and pacified them, he said.
