Gangsters nabbed at gunpoint by cops

CHENNAI: Taking a cue from the recent murder of rowdy Karthik by a rival gang at Kotturpuram soon after he was out on bail, cops pre-em-pted a clash between two groups, arresting two men and seizing their weapons, at MKB Nagar on Sunday.Acting on a tip-off that two gangs led by P Nagendran (35) of Vyasarpadi and Kar-thik alias Pavadai Karthik (28) of B V Colony were pla-nning to attack each other, surveillance on them was intensified, Assistant Commissioner (MKB Nagar) Govi Manoharan told Express. Both gang leaders had several cases of murder and attempt to murder against them, he said.Nagendran was arrested for murder and was serving life term at the Central prison in Coimbatore, while his brother P Murugan (35), who had been behind bars in connection with a case, was released on bail a month ago.Sensing trouble, a special team led by the ACP launched a search for the members of both gangs and zeroed in on them. Police confronted Murugan, another rowdy Satish alias A Satish Kumar (23) and two others at the cremation ground at Mullai Nagar, where they were allegedly hatching a plan to attack their rivals.Murugan and Satish, who initially tried to escape, surrendered after the cops war-ned them at gunpoint. Knives and other weapons were seized from the duo, while a search has been launched for the other two men.Police also booked Pavadai Karthik in another case and arrested him.
