New Delhi: Former Indian cricket captain Sunil Gavaskar has advised Sourav Ganguly to show his class in the domestic matches to claim his place back in the Indian squad.

The original Little Master added that although he never faced a similar situation when he was dropped every one should be prepared to take the rough with the smooth.

"Its a part of the game. Sourav should make heaps of runs in the Ranji Trophy and make a statement," Gavaskar said.

He admitted that he had experienced "a sense of relief" when Tendulkar went on to break the his world record of 34 Test centuries during the second match against Sri Lanka.

"It was a relief for Tendulkar as well. That century has been coming for quite a while. Records are meant to be broken," he added.

"Its a sign of human progress. The fact that Tendulkar is a fellow Indian and has so much talent, has made me happier," said Gavaskar.

Gavaskar, currently in Nepal as a goodwill envoy to promote tourism, said the ideal way to promote cricket in the Himalayan kingdom would be to hold matches between the 'A' teams of Nepal and their SAARC cricket-playing neighbours ? India, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
