CHENNAI: Ever since its inception, Calibre Academy has believed in ‘be local and going global’. As part of this endeavour, Calibre has entered the fifth year of its partnership with Edward Richardson Primary School under the Global School partnership scheme run by The British Council. Very few schools in the city are part of this privileged group of schools, which belong to the Global School project. Calibre was the first school to directly get the Global School Project and to proactively get British Council funding.The Global School Partnership looks at the possibility of integrating global development issues within the formal curriculum. Global education is seen as a way of extending students’ views of the world by exploring their perceptions and connections. It helps them recognise and think critically about the different cultural, economic and political perspectives. Thus, Calibre’s partnership with the Edward Richardson Primary School is designed for mutual enrichment through an active exchange in the areas of syllabus, teaching methodologies, teacher and student interactions between the two schools as well as exchange programmes.The children of both the schools work on five mega projects on a global scale collaboratively every year and exchange their work with each other using the web conferencing method, email and courier service. The projects are then presented to the top officials of British Council in London for assessment.This partnership has seen teachers from both the schools visiting each other for the past five years. During the visit, an exchange of novel and innovative ideas on teaching and learning processes take place. Apart from this, there is an exposure given to the visitors to the various traditions and culture of the place. A tour of some of the famous tourist spots in and around the school is arranged.
