Goa to heighten security ahead of Christmas
A special watch is being kept on the flea market at Anjuna and Saturday night market that attracts huge crowds.

Panaji: All establishments in Goa frequented by tourists have been asked to put in place security measures ahead of the Christmas and New Year festivities in the state, police said on Monday.

The state home department has also called for a special security review meeting on December 24, which will be chaired by Home minister Ravi Naik, they said.

Superintendent of Police (North) Arvind Gawas said advisories have been issued to all the establishments asking them to install CCTV cameras, metal detector door frames and other security equipments.

The CCTVs should be able to store images for at least 30 days and it should be available for police scrutiny as and when required, he said.

Hotels, guest houses, temples, tourist places and even shacks and restaurants in Pernem taluka of North Goa, which are frequented by foreigners will have heightened security in the days to come, he said.

Gawas said regular inspection is being carried out by police to ensure that security equipments are in place and in working condition.

Anti-narcotic cell sleuths have also been asked to keep a vigil on the places and book cases under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, the officer added.
