An accidental fire broke out at Manoj Cargo gift parcel godown, located behind the Satellite Bus Stand at Byatarayanapura on Mysore Road on Saturday morning. Goods worth a few lakhs were gutted in the fire.
According to the Fire Department officials, the workers in the godown noticed heavy smoke in the gowdon around 8.15 am and immediately informed the fire personnel. However, the fire had spread and destroyed parcels, which were ready to deliver, by the time they arrived. Nearly 19 fire tenders were pressed into service and after an operation of nearly seven-and-a-half hours, the fire was completely doused. In the process, five fire personnel sustained minor injuries and they were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, the police said.
The fire personnel took all precautionary measures in preventing the fire from spreading to the adjacent buildings and the godown neither had fire-fighting equipment nor no-objection certificate (NOC) from the department. The reasons for the fire and the exact loss are yet to be ascertained, the officials added.
A case has been registered in Byatarayanapura police station limits and investigations are on.
