Bhopal: Claiming that the Centre was serious about spiralling petro-diesel prices, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday stated that the central government was working on a solution to the issue.

Singh who was in Bhopal said that the spike in petrol and diesel prices in India was due to an international surge in crude oil prices.

“The price rise, however, hasn’t affected the economy,” claimed the minister, whose visit concluded hours ahead of the commencement of the proposed farmers’ stir in Madhya Pradesh.

Singh added that the government was serious in making efforts to save the public from high inflation.

“We are working on a solution. Our government is committed to double up farmers’ income by the year 2022,” Singh assured.

The Union Minister also shared the achievements of four years of Modi government. Stressing on the ruling party’s transparency, Singh said that no earlier governments had offered details of their functioning, unlike the BPP.

Underlining the infrastructure growth during the last four years, Singh quoted figures from the Economic Survey 2017-18 and claimed that if investments in infrastructure continued in their current pace, the growth would reach 4 to 5 trillion dollars by the year 2040.

Singh also highlighted Modi government’s anti-corruption endeavours, claiming that corruption has been minimized to a great extent by bringing in transparency into the system.

According to the minister, The Direct Benefit Transfer scheme, facilitated by Jan-Dhan bank accounts, mobile phones and Aadhaar, has terminated intermediaries in welfare schemes. This has helped the Centre save Rs 70,000 crore in subsidies offered under 431 schemes, he said.

Terming the government’s Ayushman Bharat Yojana as a historical endeavour in healthcare, Singh claimed that Modicare has left even the much-hyped Obamacare behind.

Speaking on the internal security front, the Home minister claimed that no major terrorist attack has been witnessed in last four years and Maoist insurgency has reduced from 126 districts to just 10 or 11 at present.
