BANGALORE: Karnataka High Court on Tuesday told the state government it has no business to interfere with the activities of the Wakf Board.
Further, the HC directed the government to prepare calendar within one week for holding elections to the Wakf Board. The division bench comprising Chief Justice J S Khehar and Justice H G Ramesh said the government had no business interfering with the Wakf Board's activities. The division bench said the members of the board themselves have to conduct the board's activities. The court further observed that the government had been controlling the board for 18 months by appointing an administrator and asked what improvement had been shown. The court said it would not permit the government to interfere in the activities of the board without any valid reason.Karnataka Wakf Board had filed a writ petition, requesting the court to direct the state government to hold elections to the board.
