Mumbai: Bollywood star and Lok Sabha MP Govinda has been appointed as the brand ambassador for the Bhojpuri Film Awards.
The actor-turned politician will oversee preparations for the second Bhojpuri Film Awards 2006 to be held on Feb 16 next year at the Goregaon Sports Club in Mumbai.
Off late the little-known regional Bhojpuri film industry has been turning into a show stealer in India. The Bhojpuri film industry, catering to 200 million Bhojpuri-speaking-people in the states of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, is raking in cash like never before.
Throwing in some glamorous faces and slick foreign locations for a contemporary feel, Bhojpuri films are often outperforming Bollywood biopics at the box office these days.
Recently, a Bhojpuri film, Dehaati Babu, opened to jam packed theatres in Hyderabad, far away from Bihar, Uttar Pradesh which are the places where the language originally hails from.
In fact Bhojpuri superstar Ravi Kishan presently creating much news for his appearance on Sony’s reality show Bigg Boss says "Bhojpuri cinema is like home-cooked food."
