On Sunday, the City witnessed the largest number people tested for blood glucose levels within  eight hours — an astounding 3,573 people. The event was organised by the Novo Nordisk Education Foundation (NNEF) on the eve of World Diabetes Day. The event was organised with the aim of creating awareness about diabetes in line with the global World Diabetes Day theme of 'Act on Diabetes Now'.Managing trustee of Novo Nordisk Education Foundation Melvin D’Souza received the certificate from the official from the Guinness Book of Records, UK who monitored the event.The award ceremony saw a host of stars from the Kannada film industry support the event. Actor Priyanka Updendra and others were present to show their solidarity to the cause of changing diabetes.  Speaking on the occasion D’souza said, “We have more than 62 million people with diabetes in India. Despite an adult prevalence rate of 6.2 per cent, only 6-million people are treated. The first step is to increase awareness about diabetes and detect diabetes earlier. The Guinness record is only one of the many activities we have undertaken.” Inspector General of police (Anti Terrorist Cell),  Bhaskar Rao was the chief guest. He said, “Diabetes is a growing malady that is destroying the lives of millions, thanks to sedentary lifestyles. We have a responsibility to educate people with ways and means to tackle this epidemic. I congratulate the organisers for setting the  record”.
