The Gujarat HC rejected the state government's ordinance providing 10% reservation to EWS in government jobs.
Ahmedabad: The Gujarat High Court on Thursday rejected the state government's ordinance providing 10% reservation to members of the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) in government jobs and educational institutions.
The HC delivered the verdict while hearing the petition on government's May 1 ordinance.
A section of petitioners including Gujarat Parents' Association had challenged the government's ordinance that allowed 10% reservation to candidates belonging to the unreserved category with family income of Rs 6 lakh per annum.
They claimed that the reservation is a gross violation of the Supreme Court's order providing 50 per cent ceiling for reservation.
