Gurgaon: In an attempt to enhance the efficiency of the police, the Haryana government on Monday decided to arm the police with hi-tech equipment like high resolution cameras and other facilities.
Electronic surveillance of the city will be done by installing cameras at vital locations and the police force will be provided wireless sets operating on digital trunk system technology, Inspector General of Police, Gurgaon Range, Mohinder Lal told PTI.
"Gurgaon would become the first district in the country with such electronic surveillance facilities," he said, adding that malls and court premises have already been asked to install close circuit television (CCTVs).
A total of more than 250 cameras will be installed initially in the district and a centralised control room would be set up to monitor important junctures of the city, Lal explained.
Besides, police personnel will be provided vehicles equipped with global positioning system, he said.
Now, residents can also avail the state-of-the-art police control room services through which they can seek information, among other things, on actions taken on FIR and status of their passports verification, the IGP added.
