Have identified the group which has held Indians hostage in Iraq: MEA
Even as it has ruled out carrying out mass evacuation of Indians, it has established contact with the Indian nationals stranded in Mosul, one of the worst hit areas of Iraq.

New Delhi: The Ministry of External Affairs said on Sunday that the 39 Indians held in hostage in Iraq's Mosul are safe and that the government has identified the group which has kept them in captivity.

MEA spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin tweeted, "Thanks. We got in touch with the company. Officials 2 meet all workers. Will assist those who want to return. Numbers are small."

The MEA has already evacuated 16 Indians stuck in the war-torn country. Even as it has ruled out carrying out mass evacuation of Indians, it has established contact with the Indian nationals stranded in Mosul, one of the worst hit areas of Iraq.
