THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former state minister for law M Vijayakumar has lashed out at the UDF Government for its disinterest in ensuring a High Court bench in the capital. In a press release issued here on Friday, Vijayakumar said that it was strange to notice the silence of Oommen Chandy, K M Mani and V S Sivakumar over the setting up a High Court Bench in the city. He said that the UDF had been relentless in its criticism against the LDF on the same issue during the left rule in the State. The truth is that the LDF government had, in fact, completed all the formalities and submitted the matter for the consideration of President and Central Government. According to the State Reorganisation Act, the President should bring out the notification for a High Court Bench after consultations with the Governor and Chief Justice. Even during the recent 200th anniversary celebrations of Thiruvananthapuram district court, the High Court Chief Justice had said that he couldn’t do anything personally on the issue and that the matter could be presented before the full court. This means that the High Court bench has turned into an unfulfilled dream.
