BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday rejected the bail application of 52-year-old advocate S K Paramesh in a case relating to the kidnap of a widow, her illegal detention in a house for 18 months and transfer of her property to his name.Rejecting his bail petition, Justice Subhash B Adi said that there were chances of Paramesh tampering with the evidence. Paramesh had allegedly kept in illegal confinement Meena Vijay alias Meenakshi Pai, wife of Karunakar Vijay, director of MVV Group of Companies and Punarvasu Commodities and Stocks. Paramesh was the legal adviser of the company.According to police, in a cheating case filed against the company in 2002, the CBI had named Karunakar, Meena, Paramesh and others as accused.Karunakar passed away in 2003, and Meena was staying alone at her house in Thimmenahalli. As all the assets were in her name, Paramesh allegedly kidnapped her from her residence with the help of his wife Uma and some others on February 2, 2009. He had kept her in his residence for 18 months, and during that time, he allegedly got her signature forcibly on various documents, and had siphoned off `20 lakh kept as fixed deposit in Malleswaram Chitanya Co-Operative Bank. Also, he got a 10-acre land in Parvathanapalya in Magadi owned by Meena transferred to his name. The value of the land is about `3 crore. He allegedly transferred the ownership of Meena’s house in Thimmenahalli to his name.As Meena, who was an accused in the CBI case, had not appeared in the hearings, the CBI court had issued a search warrant against her.Coming to know of this, Paramesh produced her before the court and secured her bail. In the court, however, Meena explained the trauma she underwent during the 18 months, and the court directed her to file a case at the concerned police station. She filed a case in Vijayanagar police station, following which Paramesh was arrested on July 23, 2011.
