KOCHI: The High Court on Tuesday dismissed the bail plea of Sobha John, an accused in the Varappuzha sex scam.Justice M Sasidharan Nambiar observed that if the accused was released on bail, she would tamper with the evidence which would affect the investigation. The prosecution case is that a 16-year-old girl who was sold by her parents to Sobha John for `1 lakh at Thiruvananthapuram last year, was sexually exploited in several districts, including Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Pathanamthitta. Counsel for the petitioner submitted that all the other accused in the case have been released on bail, except Shobha John. The state government submitted that the investigation in the case will be completed within two months. If the accused is released on bail, it would affect the investigation, the state said. The court, however, held that the accused has the right to approach the court after two months.
