Chhattisgarh High Court on Thursday stayed a lower court's order, which had asked the police to register a First Information Report against the Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Ajay Chandrakar for possessing assets disproportionate to the known sources of income.

Justice Pritinkar Diwakar on Thursday stayed "effect and operation" of lower court's order of March 19, Chandrkar's lawyer advocate Prateek Sharma said. Seeking details of the case from the lower court, the High Court issued notices to the state government, Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of police, and the complainant, seeking their replies, he said.

The court in Dhamtari district had directed the Anti-Corruption Bureau/EOW to register the FIR, on the private complaint filed by RTI activist Krishna Kumar Sahu. Sahu had alleged that before becoming minister in 2003, Chandrakar had 1.6 acres of land, but now he owned a commercial complex, a rice mill, a petrol pump, a school and other property worth crores of rupees.

Special Judge (Anti Corruption) in the district, MD Jagdalla, had ordered the Superintendent of Police, Economic Offence Bureau/Anti Corruption Bureau, to register the FIR against Chandrakar.
