The Heritage Seeds Exhibition was recently held in the Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu. It showcased handicrafts made from eco-friendly waste materials along with heritage seeds. Amid handicrafts made from coconut shells and pens made with seeds, the wall clock made from palm oil received a lot of attention. “The wall clock was made in Tirunelveli,” said Perumal of Borunai Crafts, a volunteer organisation that produces handicrafts from the locals in Tirunelveli.
He also explained the special features of palm clocks. Generally, Tirunelveli is known for palm and related products. So, as the palm oil used for making rakhis in the homes is getting less and less, he said that he will prepare a watch for the workers who are engaged in making the sulagu. Made entirely of eco-friendly materials such as palm fronds and chirati numbers, this clock does not harm the winding even if it is thrown away. At some point, when the clock is not running, the pin can be removed and the clock can be used.
Due to its eco-friendly uniqueness, many people today are more interested in buying palm oil clocks with company names printed on them and gifting them. So far, this palm clock has been gifted to important VIPs like the governor, speaker, etc. He said that promoting the use of this palm tree clock, would protect the environment and help the livelihood of palm tree workers.
In recent years, there has been a burgeoning movement towards eco-friendly and sustainable living, with a growing number of people seeking to reduce their environmental footprint in all aspects of their lives. Notably, one area that has witnessed a significant surge in this eco-conscious mindset is home décor. Opting for earth-friendly décor not only allows you to create a beautiful and stylish home but also contributes towards preserving our natural resources.
Gunjan Jindal Poddar, Founder, of Amala Earth, explains some of the benefits of using earth-friendly home décor:
1. Sustainability
2. Healthier living
