HYDERABAD: AICC general secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad and party observer  Vayalar Ravi are expected here on April 29 to do the party’s bidding as it is not very happy over the state-level leaders’ approach to the byelections for one Lok Sabha and 18 Assembly seats. With some of the leaders chosen by the party leadership at the state level not showing interest in fighting the byelections, the party’s central leadership wants to instil confidence in party workers and leaders that the Congress is a very large and strong party. Ravi is understood to have been upset with the way the leaders are going about selecting candidates. He is also unhappy over their ability to persuade leaders to contest on Congress ticket.According to sources, Ravi is unhappy over selection of Ramprasad Reddy for Rayachoti and wants a minority candidate fielded form there. As chief minister has plumped for Ramprasad Reddy and has even finalised his name “without consulting anyone” in the party, Ravi is understood to have called upon PCC president Botcha Satayanrayana to suggest a few names from the minority community.Similarly, Ravi, while speaking to Satyanarayana,  made his displeasure known over the chief minister finalising M Mallikarjuna Reddy without taking into confidence Rajampet MP A Sai Pratap though the Assembly segment is part of his Lok Sabha constituency. The selection has upset Pratap who has made it clear that he will rather leave the party than hit out at the late YSR, giving an indication that he is not happy with the Congress. In the case of Koduru too, Ravi has not liked the name of Easwaraiah being forwarded for consideration without consultations at the state level.  The party high command apparently is becoming jittery over the poor demand for Congress ticket. It has woken form the reverie that it would, after all, be able to put up some kind of a performance when Gangula Pratap Reddy said in Allagadda that neither he nor his brother was interested in contesting on Congress ticket against Bhuma Shobha Nagi Reddy.  The chief minister is yet to find an alternative to Gangula Pratap Reddy. The other two constituencies where the party is still looking for candidates are Parkal and Payakaraopet. From Anantapur Urban Kiran Reddy is contemplating to field Musheeda Begum, wife of Anantpaur Zilla Granthalaya Samstha chairman Rasheed Ahmed after  Ananta Subba Reddy, brother of Anantapur MP Ananta Venkatarami Reddy, chickened out of a contest against YSRC nominee.

What's your reaction?
