Delhi: They may disagree on almost every issue, but Sania Mirza has managed to unite Hindu hardliners and Muslim fundamentalists towards a common cause.
A Hindu on Friday joined the ranks of Muslim clerics who hate the ace tennis star's guts.
VHP leader Acharya Dharmendra slammed the teen idol for her remarks on sex and her dress, saying it would misguide the youths.
"I am an ardent fan of Sania. But she is trying to destroy the institutions like marriage and other social institutions by saying certain things, which are beyond imagination," the Acharya said.
The VHP leader seems to have taken exception to Sania's remarks that it was no one's business to decide whether she wore a six-inch or a six-feet long dress in the tennis court.
Her support to the beleagured south Indian actress Khushboo too came in for criticism. "Her supporting film actress Kushboo (who set off controversy by her remarks on women and pre-marital sex) by saying it is not important to have sex before or after marriage rather what is important is that there should be safe sex is also highly objectionable," the VHP leader said.
The Acharya reasoned, such statements are enough to misguide youths and destroy the institutions of marriage.
Asked what type of dress he would recommend for Sania during play, the Acharya agreed Sania could not play in a saree or salwar suit. "But that does not mean she should make such remarks," he asserted.

Another controversial announcement made by RSS supremo K S Sudarshan on Thursday found a resonance in the Acharya. He said, he agreed with the view that Hindus should have at least three children to keep the demographic composition of India intact.
"When we cannot control the population of the minorities, to maintain the balance between the minority and the majority, Hindu women should be prepared for more labour pains," the Acharya said.
