Jintao addressing more than 2,000 delegates in Beijing.
New Delhi: China's President Hu Jintao called for socialist democracy at the 15th Communist Party Congress on Monday.
Addressing more than 2,000 delegates in Beijing, he said people must participate more in their Government.
But this must not affect the Communist Party as the core leadership, he said. He added that his priority would be on ensuring China's break-neck speed of development also improves the life of millions of its people in the countryside.
He avoided any hostile rhetoric on Taiwan, instead, offering to end hostilities provided Taiwan accepts the idea of one China.
