Huge expectations from woman head

THOOTHUKUDI: Expectations are high from the newly-elected AIADMK woman mayor of Thoothukudi,L Sasikala Pushpa, as many of the key issues remained unaddressed during the previous DMK regime.“Amma (Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa) has a great vision and plans for Thoothukudi and all would come true. I would try my best to make Thoothukudi Corporation a model one in the State. People of Thoothukudi are anxiously waiting for an all new city free of problems,” she told Express.Irregular supply of drinking water is the main concern for the people.  Underground drainage works in the Corporation area move in a snail’s pace. Moreover, increase in number of vehicles has resulted in traffic congestion in many arterial roads. Sasikala Pushpa, taking stock of all the problems of Thoothukudi during her campaign, assured a cleaner city.  She wants to take steps to address the traffic problems and implement  an underground pipeline scheme. She promised subways at first and second railway gates, a railway overbridge at fourth gate, a flyover near VVD signal, extension of drainage system to the newly added wards and to set up an integrated bus stand.
