Human Rights Commission criticised

KOCHI: At the Independent People’s Tribunal (IPT) organised by the Human Rights Law Network, activists and persons from various social spheres came down  heavily upon the working of the Human Rights Commission. “The Commission works under the State but the State itself is the culprit in many cases. This is a major drawback,” said social activist, C R Neelakantan.The Human Rights Commission can only recommend the government or the various bodies to take action. Even if the action is not taken, the commission has no legal powers.  Hence there is no  accountability.
