Srinagar: Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, chairman of Hurriyat Conference, on Tuesday welcomed the recent statement of the UN General Secretary asking India and Pakistan to end hostility on the Line of Control (LoC) and called for efforts to encourage normalisation of relations between the two countries and resolution of the Kashmir-issue.

“Both Prime Ministers should be encouraged to meet on the sidelines of UN summit to take steps in normalising relations and solving the (Kashmir) dispute,” Mirwaiz said while addressing a seminar at Hurriyat headquarters here.

Meanwhile, the Hurriyat's hardline faction accused the Centre of not being serious on resolving the vexed Kashmir-issue and also sought UN intervention in addressing the long standing problem for peace in the region.
