CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Government placed Inspector General of Police (IG) P Sivanandi under suspension on Monday. Sivanandi, who served as the State Intelligence chief under the AIADMK regime headed by Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa during 2001-06, was sidelined after the DMK came to power in 2006. However, he was eventually promoted and appointed as IG, West Zone.When the AIADMK came back to power in May this year, he was transferred as IG, Vigilance, State Transport Corporation (Kumbakonam) Ltd, Tiruchirapalli, from where he was shifted to Tirunelveli four days ago. The Madras High Court Bench had recently quashed a case registered by the Kodaikanal Taluk police station against Sivanandi, former Kodaikanal Municipal Chairman K C A Kurian Abraham and 10 others in connection with alleged grabbing of Welwyn Cottage spread over 1.44 hectares in Kodaikanal. In this backdrop, the suspension order was served on him on Monday morning, police sources told Express.
