Lucknow: Despite warning from the UP police chief, the Uttar Pradesh police personnel are observing Friday as black day in support of the cop accused in the murder of Apple employee Vivek Tiwari.

The policemen wore black bands on duty as a mark of protest in Naka Hindola and Gudamba police station declaring their support for murder accused cop Prashant Chaudhary.

The pictures of the protesting policemen are being circulated on social media.

A police constable, identified as Sarvesh Chaudhary, had earlier expressed his resentment over the accused cop being suspended and had challenged the UP police chief. Chaudhary has since then been suspended and an inquiry too has been ordered.

The authorities have taken note of the protest and have ordered a probe.

"We have come to know about some policemen protesting by tying black bands on their arms. We are investigating all the details.Action will be taken against the guilty," a statement from the DGP's office said.

The UP police have also ordered strict action against cops challenging the UP police chief and writing on social media in support of the murder accused cop.

However, there have also been reports about an IPS officer donating money to the wife of the murder accused as a part of protest against the arrest of police constables.

UP police chief OP Singh had on Thursday said that there was no “dissatisfaction among the policemen”, adding that UP police is “people-friendly”.

“All the senior officers of DG, IG and DIG rank were interacting with the police force across the state and there is no resentment among the cops over the arrest of murder accused cops. The state police force never gets involved in any illegal activity and those getting involved would not be spared,” UP DGP, OP Singh has said.

In a statement issued by DGP Headquarters it is said that, "We have come to know about some policemen protesting by tying black bands on their arms. We are investigating all the details like time and purpose from the cops in the pictures. Related officers will take necessary action if anyone is found guilty. In the last two days we have also come to know about some morphed photographs being circulated on the social media. Till now we have suspended two cops Brijendra Yadav and Avinash Pathak from Varanasi and Mirzapur for posts on viral media. Also, one Sarvesh Chaudhary has been suspended and departmental inquiry has been initiated against him. We are keeping an eye on the social media and those found guilty in the investigation will face the action."
