New Delhi: After Indian Institute of Management-Ahmedabad (IIM-A) director Ashish Nanda raised concerns over the draft IIM Bill, now the director of IIM-B has spoken up against the controversial move by the Narendra Modi government.
Speaking to CNN-IBN, IIM-B director Sushil Vachani said that the bill, if implemented, will give the government a strong influence on many important decisions.
"Anything that we do has to be approved by the Central government, whether it's admission, hiring teachers, fees or tuition," said the IIM-B director, adding that he has a lot of serious reservations about the clauses of the bill.
Though he conceded that the bill was very good and must have involved a lot of smart bureaucrats, Vachani said that it would affect the autonomy of the institution.
This comes after IIM-A director Ashish Nanda claimed that the new law drafted by the HRD ministry for managing the management institutes may compromise its autonomy. He added that they are still in talks with the government to find a middle ground.
"The bill in its present form has too many regulations and will affect the institute's autonomy. We have expressed concerns about it and we are currently in conversation with the HRD and we will hopefully be able to arrive at a shared perspective," he had said.
Criticising the bill, Nanda had said that micro-management was never good and if implemented, people working in institutions might feel less empowered.
