KURNOOL: Reiterating their demand for Samaikyandhra, people’s representatives of all political parties in Rayalaseema have demanded a special aid package for development of the backward region. If creation of separate Telangana state is inevitable, the Centre should form Greater Rayalaseema state and develop one of the major towns in the region on par with Hyderabad, they said.The all-party meeting on Samaikyandhra was organised by the Rayalaseema Hakkula Ikya Vedika, led by minor irrigation minister TG Venkatesh, here on Saturday. The people’s representatives of different political parties said the state government should made budgetary allocation region-wise to promote balanced growth. For Rayalaseema, two per cent more budgetary funds should be allocated as it is the most backward region of the state, they said.To provide better irrigation facility to the farm land in the drought-prone region, Galeru-Nagari, Handri Neeva Sujala Sravanthi, Telugu Ganga, Velugonda and other projects should be completed on a priority basis, they said.Minister Venkatesh said people of Rayalaseema would not allow bifurcation of the state without developing Rayalaseema region. Rayalaseema Political Joint Action Committee convener Chandrasekhara Reddy said formation of Telangana state would make Rayalaseema a desert as irrigation projects in the region would not get water from reservoirs in Telangana. An all-party delegation should meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and explain to him the adverse consequences of bifurcation of the state, he said.Congress leader Ahmadullah urged the state government to develop one of the major towns in Rayalaseema on par with Hyderabad to rectify regional imbalances.20-Point Programme Implementation Committee chairman N Tulasi Reddy said the state government should make 2 per cent more allocation for Rayalaseema region in the next budget.Dhone MLA and TDP politburo member KE Krishnamurthy warned that the Union government would have to face serious consequences if the state was bifurcated. He wanted to know on what basis TRS chief K Chandrasekhara Rao and TJAC chairman M Kodandaram were demanding formation of separate Telangana state though it had achieved growth. Former minister YS Vivekananda Reddy said leaders of Rayalaseema irrespective of their political affiliations should pressurise the state government to complete all pending irrigation projects in the state and allocate the surplus water to the drought-prone Rayalaseema region for its development. Rayalaseema region should be developed first before taking any decision on creation of separate Telangana state, he said. TDP Rajya Sabha member MV Mysoora Reddy urged people’s representatives of Rayalaseema to make a representation to the Centre seeking a special aid package for the Rayalaseema region.
