Chelsea are slowly closing in on an agreement to bring LaLiga star Joao Felix to London. The Atletico Madrid forward has been linked with a possible return to Chelsea this transfer window. The Blues have reportedly put in a new bid for the Portugal youngster to seal the deal. The news was later shared by transfer market specialist Fabrizio Romano on X (formerly Twitter). Speaking about the development, Romano wrote, “Understand Chelsea and Atletico are getting closer to a final agreement for Joao Felix and Connor Gallagher!”
Fabrizio Romano also talked about how a deal was still being discussed earlier today. He stated that the Portuguese international had already said yes to the terms offered by Chelsea. “Positive round of talks today, Joao says yes to contract terms. Rumours on €60 million fixed fee for Felix are not true. All parties working to get it done this weekend,” he added.
It was earlier reported that Chelsea had previously offered a £38 million bid for Joao Felix. But it was rejected by the La Liga giants. Soon additional reports emerged, suggesting that Chelsea responded with a new bid of €46 million, plus €5 million in bonuses.
Earlier this week, Romano shared ‘exclusive’ news over a transfer discussion between Chelsea and Atletico Madrid for Joao Felix. He stated, “Chelsea and Atletico Madrid are now discussing Joao Felix to CFC as part of the Gallagher deal! Sami Omorodion deal collapsing and the two clubs don’t want Gallagher and Julian Alvarez deals to collapse too…Joao Felix, being discussed with Jorge Mendes in London.”
Felix is a dynamic attacking talent who can fill in a variety of different places. The 24-year-old can play as a centre-forward, a false nine and even a left-winger. He can provide cover for Chelsea in several positions this season. He even had a brief stint in London where he competed in the second half of the 2022/23 season on loan for The Blues. He made 20 appearances for the Londoners while scoring four goals for the English side.
As for Chelsea’s ongoing campaign, the Enzo Maresca-coached side will be taking on Premier League champions Manchester City at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
