Kota: In the third suicide in Kota in last five days, a 17-year-old IIT-JEE aspirant from Bihar killed himself by hanging from the ceiling fan of his hostel in Mahavir Nagar area of the city on Tuesday morning.
Police said when Jitesh Gupta failed to attend a call from his parents in the morning and they then called his friend. The friend saw Jitesh’s body through the window and informed the authorities, The Times of India reported.
“Jitesh, a resident of Hardobara in Bihar’s Siwan district, has been preparing for IIT-JEE entrance for the last three years in a premier institute of Kota,” said Ishwar Singh, sub-inspector at Mahavir Nagar police station.
The police, however was not able to recover any suicide note and they are yet to ascertain the reason why Jitesh took the extreme step.
On Sunday, Diksha Singh, a 17-year-old NEET aspirant of UP’s Kushinagar, had killed herself in Kota’s Adarsh Nagar. Another student, 16-year-old Deepak Dadich, an IIT aspirant, had hanged himself on Saturday noon in his coaching institute.
Tuesday’s incident is the 19th suicide by a student in Kota since January this year.
