In Telangana's Karimnagar, Villagers In This Area Never Lie
Historically ruled by Nizam Prabhu, this village was noted for its residents' integrity, earning it the nickname Nijayithi Gudem from locals.

Telangana is famous for its historical heritage, having been governed by various dynasties such as the Qutub Shahis, Asaf Jahis, Nizams, and Kakatiyas. Many districts and villages were named after rulers during these times. One such village in Manakondur Mandal, Karimnagar district is called Nijayithi Gudem.

Historically ruled by Nizam Prabhu, this village was noted for its residents’ integrity, earning it the nickname Nijayithi Gudem from locals. Nearby villages include Khadaragudem and Vankaya Gudem.

Villagers here were known for their fair dealings, especially noticeable during construction projects. Another name for this village was Sanyar Gudem. A local tale involves a woman who, wanting to bathe, tied a leather rope to a nail, leading to a prediction by the village head that it would not rain at all. The village, prospering in various ways, became known as a “place of honesty”. This legacy of integrity continues with the current generation, who also abstain from alcohol.

It is surrounded by lush fields, well-maintained roads, and plentiful sources of drinking and irrigation water, giving the area a vibrant green appearance. Notably, the village also boasts several highly educated individuals.

Similarly, during their stay, the Britishers built several buildings in Dummungudem village in the Bhadradari Kothagudem district of Telangana. These buildings are still standing as a testimony to the history of that time.

Locals say that John Kevin, a Britisher, built many buildings in the centre of Dummugudem village in Dummugudem mandal of Kothagudem. They claim it was built 120 years ago and it served as a navigation centre near the Godavari River for the colonial administration. In this context, Local 18 spoke to the locals visiting the area about the towns and revealed many interesting facts.

“About 120 years ago, British citizen John Kevin and his wife Sarah Kevin came to the Dummugudem Mandal Centre of Bhadradri Kothagudem district and built many buildings in this area. Moreover, our ancestors said that they also built schools in this area at that time,” said KVVS Murthy, who works as a teacher at Narasapuram Government School in Bhadradri Kothagudem.

He added that although the buildings built in this area are currently dilapidated, the architecture portrays the higher skill of British Engineering.
