New Delhi: While there has been a big hue and cry over the high pricing of tickets in the Indian leg of the International Premier Tennis League, the fans seem more than happy to shell out big bucks to watch their favorite tennis stars play.
The Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi has a seating capacity of over 15,000. But it was less than half-full during most of the three day's play in India and saw the maximum presence during the time when World No. 2 Roger Federer was on the court.
Sarthak, a 23-year-old student from Delhi feels that INR 3,000, the price that he payed for a three-day ticket, is nothing when compared to the ticket prices of a Grand Slam or any other big WTA event.
"I have been waiting for a long time to watch these top tennis players play in India and considering the fact that we got to watch Federer and Novak Djokovic play, I'm more than happy to pay the price of the ticket," said Sarthak.
Sagar, also a student from Delhi, who had paid INR 12,000, feels that the prices could have been a little cheaper but said he has got a decent seat.
"I have got a very good seat for the price I have paid. Maybe the tickets could have been INR 1,000-2,000 cheaper and the quality of seats could also have been better but the tickets are also valid for three days," said Sagar.
The final day in India saw some brilliant tennis being played and it seems that if the organisers had shown a little mercy while deciding ticket prices, we would have seen a packed house.
The IPTL organisers had claimed a full house for the Indian leg but the stadium, on all the three days, did not look completely occupied.
On Sunday, many unhappy fans registered their displeasure to the organisers over the quality of the seats assigned to them.
