PATHANAMTHITTA(KERALA): A leopard was killed by an irate crowd at Angamoozhy on the fringe areas of the forest in Goodrickal range under Ranni Forest Division on Tuesday. The leopard was spotted by a few local people at Angamoozhy, on the Moozhiyar-Seethathode road, bordering the forest at 6 am.On hearing the news, forest protection staff members at the nearby Goodrickal range office reached the spot where the wild animal was seen. In a few minutes, hundreds of people gathered in the area where the endangered animal was spotted. When the people shouted, the leapard went into hiding among the bushes in a nearby rubber plantation.On information, Ranni DFO Kamalahar reached the spot at 8 am and a large number of police personnel from the nearby stations too arrived there to control the crowd. For rescuing the wild cat, the DFO summoned the veterinary surgeons of the Forest Department.In spite of the request made by the DFO to wait for the veterinary team till 1 pm, the irate crowd made a hue and cry near the bush forcing the wild cat to come out of the rubber plantation and fell victim to the people who pelted stones at it.
