Israel readying to move into Lebanon
Israel has warned it will create a ground offensive into Lebanon to create a buffer zone against Hezbollah raids.

Beirut: As Israel warned of a ground offensive into Lebanon to create a buffer zone against Hezbollah raids, the Lebanese defence minister said his army would resist any Israeli invasion.

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert was meeting his senior military commanders in Tel Aviv amid warnings of a ground offensive to carve out a buffer zone in southern Lebanon.

Such a zone, it is said, would limit Hezbollah's ability to target Israeli settlements.

Lebanon has warned it will mobilise its army to fight any Israeli invasion until now the Lebanese army has kept out of the fighting.

Israeli air strikes are now increasingly targeting Baalbek and Hermel, the southern areas of Beirut, and Khiam in southern Lebanon.

Israel continued its air strikes on roads, bridges, ports, airports and factories across Lebanon, but there's little doubt Israel is also suffering casualties.

Hezbollah's Al-Manar television showed captured Israeli equipment, including a rifle, night-vision binoculars, grenades and a video camera.
