CHENNAI: Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Sunday ordered the setting up of 50 modern warehouses to store farm produce at a cost of Rs 82 crore.An official release here said the additional storage facilities would foster the economic growth of farmers. Small ryots sell their produce after harvest at the prevailing prices as they have no proper storage amenities. “Farmers face hardship as they don’t get good price for their products.”The facilities would help ryots stack their produce during seasonal price decline and sell them when they get a better price. The modern warehouses will be complete with weighing scale and platforms, besides meters to assess moisture content.At an outlay of Rs 25 crore, godowns with a capacity of 10,000 tonnes with parking facility would be set up at the regulated markets in Karumandi Chellipalayam, Madurai, Boothalur, Virudhachalam and Vikravandi. Similarly, store houses with a capacity to store 5,000 tonnes, at a cost of Rs 20 crore, would come up at the regulated markets in Vandavasi, Chetpet, Sankarapuram, Sulur, Petthampatti, Sathiyamangalam, Orathanadu and Vallam.Also, 37 godowns with a capacity of 2,000 tonnes  would be set up and at an outlay of `37 crore at markets in Madurantakam, Cuddalore, Kallakurichi, Avloorpet, Senji, Thiyagadurugam, Namagiripettai, Kinatthukadavu, Pollachi, Anthiyur, Valliyur, Vadaseri and Natham.
