Dehra Dun: Ahead of the trial of strength in the Assembly by the Arjun Munda Government, a group of Congress MLAs from Jharkhand are camping at a hotel in Rishikesh, party sources said on Sunday.

The MLAs, led by CLP leader Alamgir Alam, along with two independent MLAs, who recently withdrew support to the Arjun Munda Government stayed overnight at the hotel after they arrived in Rishikesh on Saturday, the sources said.

Security was tightened around the hotel immediately after the MLAs arrived there. When contacted, Uttaranchal Congress General Secretary Vijay Saraswat confirmed that the party MLAs were in Rishikesh, but did not give their numbers.

"I can't say how many of them are in Rishikesh," Saraswat said.

However, Alam said these MLAs were on 'pleasure trip' to Haridwar and Rishikesh and asserted that all the party MLAs were united and will defeat the Munda Government when the trial of strength takes place.

The special Assembly session in Ranchi would begin on September 14 to take up the trust vote. The BJP-led government had plunged into a crisis after four ministers resigned from the Cabinet and withdrew their support on September 5.

The MLAs are likely to travel to the hill resort of Mussourie, the sources said.

"All the four independent MLAs are with us. So, Arjun Munda should resign on moral grounds as he would not be able to prove the majority in the House," Alam said. Another group of MLAs from Jharkhand were put up at a private resort in Alappuzha in Kerala on Saturday.
