Judgement day for activist Dr Binayak Sen
Verdict expected from a Raipur court on whether the activist with alleged Maoist links is guilty.

New Delhi: Dr Binayak Sen is accused of being a conduit for Maoists. He's been charged with treason and waging war against the state.

Dr Sen was arrested in Chhattisgarh in 2007 and was granted bail 2 years later.

He was honoured with Jonathan Mann award in 2008, while he was still in prison.

Activists worldwide including Nobel laureates put pressure on the govt for his release.

If he is convicted on Friday, he will immediately be taken into custody. Dr Sen has said he's innocent and that he's being targeted for highlighting human rights abuse.

Human rights activists in India and abroad as well as doctors from the US and other countries urged the Indian government to free him, calling his detention unjust and violation of human rights.
