THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Priya and Binoy, a differently-abled couple, can now heave a sigh of relief. Thanks to Finance Minister K M Mani who rightly intervened to transfer Priya to Kannur, her hometown, where the couple can now take up the treatment of their only child Nandakishore, who is hearing-impaired.Priya was working as junior accountant in Alappuzha District Treasury and her husband works as overseer in Irrigation Department in Kannur. The couple’s child was born hearing-impaired and the doctor had suggested cochlear implant to be done before the boy reaches the age of 2. However, the boy would need to be given auditory training which requires the presence and proximity of the child’s mother after the surgery.Since Priya had not completed five years in her present office, she was denied a transfer request which she submitted in 2010. However, Finance Minister K M Mani intervened to make the transfer possible and Priya has now been transferred to Kannur. The couple is now planning to take up Nandakishore’s treatment in a fast pace to correct his impairment.
