CHENNAI: Residents of K K Nagar must have wondered about the identity of the VIP who was going to make an appearance in the area on Wednesday. The ‘venue’ was the K K Nagar police station and the VIP was Sun Network chairman and MD Kalanidhi Maran. On Tuesday, the police had issued summons, asking him to appear for an inquiry in connection with a case of cheating filed against his employee Hansraj Saxena, who heads Sun Pictures, by Salem-based distributor T S Selvaraj. After he did not turn up, word spread that he had sought more time to appear for the inquiry. Later, ACP S Gurusamy told Express that Maran — in a letter written in Tamil — said he had a programme scheduled earlier and was out of town. He said he would appear for inquiry after July 26 and if the police needed to know anything urgently, they may contact his CEO Unnikrishnan.
