KANNUR: P K Vijayaraghavan, president of Kannur District Congress Committee (DCC), died at a private hospital in Mangalore on Wednesday morning. He was 74. Vijayaraghavan had been undergoing treatment at the Unity Hospital, Mangalore, for the last few days. The end came around 7.30 am on Wednesday. Known as a close associate of K Sudhakaran MP, he was directed by the KPCC to take over charge as president of the DCC three months ago when former DCC president P Ramakrishnan was forced to leave the post following the continuing group-fight in the party. He is survived by wife Pankajavally, daughter Dalia and son Danis. The body of Vijayaraghavan was brought to his house near Kadambur North L P School on Wednesday afternoon. The body will be placed at the DCC office here at 10 am on Thursday for the public to pay homage. The cremation will take place at 11 am at Payyambalam, according to the DCC office-bearers here.Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, Union ministers A K Antony, Mullappally Ramachandran, K C Venugopal, Vayalar Ravi, E Ahamed, KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala, state ministers K C Joseph and K P Mohanan, K Sudhakaran MP and M K Raghavan MP were among those who condoled the death of Vijayaraghavan.The Congress party will observe mourning for three days in the district.
